Useful Information

1. Unit Measurement
When measuring rackmount items the term "unit" or "space" is often used, i.e. a 45 space cabinet. One "unit" or "space" equals 1.75 inches in height. So a 45 space cabinet would have 78-3/4" of racking space available to use.

2. EIA Standards
You're familiar with the phrase 19" or 23" EIA standard rackmount items? Who is EIA? How do they set the industry standards?  http://www.eia.org  Good technical information.

3. I have a long server taking up the full depth of my rack. Shorter items can't be mounted front and back. You can use "extender" brackets or consider a 3rd set of rails to mount in between your front/back rails. Many of our cabinets come standard with 3 sets of rails just for this reason.

4. How thick is the metal in my 16- gage cabinet? In the U.S. gage or gauge for sheet metal is based on the weight of the metal, not on the thickness. 16-gage is listed as approxi-mately .0625 inch thick and 40 ounces per square foot. If you need specific values for specific gages many are listed in various references such as Machinery's Handbook. The smaller the number, usually the thicker the metal.

5. The "lip" on my rackshelf prevents my oversize product from sitting squarely. Try mounting your rackshelf upside down, giving you a "flat" bottom.

6. What's the difference between 4-pt mount and cantilever  style shelves? See photo link. Cantilever shelves are useful for products that are not heavy. These shelves are usually less expensive than 4-pt mounted ones.

7. What's the difference between a "Universal"  (full hole) pattern rackrail and a "Standard" (wide) pattern rackrail? In the universal or full hole style there is an extra hole in the middle of the space. This hole is provided for off-sized components that do not comply with the EIA standards. To avoid confusion when mounting, start at the bottom or top space in the rack as you mount. Both "Universal" and "Wide" are compliant with EIA standards for 19" racks and accessories.

8. What's the difference between a 10-32 and 10-24 screw? In American screws, pitch (32 or 24) is described as a certain amount of threads per inch. The more threads per inch, the finer the screw thread. When strength is needed use the 10-24. Where precise adjustment is preferred and vibration is a concern, use the 10-32.

9. How are your products measured? Height: top to bottom, Width: left to right and Depth: front to back. When useful we differentiate between outside dimensions and inside usable space. Many of our products are customizable. Let us know if you need specific dimensions.
